I'm a Christmas person. One of those Christmas people. The day after Thanksgiving, I'm the one pulling all the storage bins from the attic...telling J, no we can't WAIT until tomorrow. Today's the day!!! I love the decorations and the family time and the traditions and the travel and the sparkling lights and the time off work and the giving. I'm not great at the accepting of gifts, but I try to be better!
Wednesday, my mom and sis picked me up from my place, and we headed up north. We stopped at my step sisters house to see the babes (and the baby bunnies that they were receiving as a surprise the next day--it was hard to keep a secret but we came up with code words to go see them in the garage). We left a few hours later, and drove further to my grams and gramps house. What a warm, familiar feeling it is to arrive at my grandparents house. I feel like it's this same step of events every time and for some reason it's just such a comfortable and warm feeling. We always start to unpack the car, and sure enough, even if it's past bedtime, grandma eventually sticks her head out the front door and exclaims a hello. One thing that has changed is that sis and I don't race to grams and yell I'm gonna hug her first!!!. Though I am still tempted every time. Getting there late isn't as fun since then we all have to go to bed, but of course they both greet us at the door and we have to convince them that it's OK if they go back to bed and we'll play in the morning. Gosh I love them:)
The next morning Aunts and Uncles came. Gramps and I went to pick up my great grandma, but stopped for a beer at the legion before hand. He kept saying how he can't believe he still hasn't taken me out for a beer since I've turned 21. So that was a pretty awesome memory I will keep forever.
After our beer, we stopped at my great grandma Emma's. She's 98 and perky as ever. Her hearing caught up with her age before her heart though, so that's always a little tough. It hurts to think that she has so much to say, but a lack of hearing holds her back. But we try and make the best of it! Anyway, she wasn't ready anyway since she had just made 2 fresh loafs of bread. Gosh I hope I'm that productive when I'm that age! How adorable...so we picked her up a few hours later after her bread was ready:)
