We took a late flight on Thursday night. Most of us met at Katie's and her hubs took us to the airport.
Stephs friend Jill from Seattle met us later in the weekend and also drove us around in her
car which was super awesome of her!
Friday
We drove to the airport that morning to get a car, had breakfast and made our way to Canon Beach, which was about an 1.5 hour drive. The little town was really cute, there were a
lot of little touristy little shops and what not. It was a little cloudy, but
still a really fun little place to be. We walked along the coast and saw the
famous Canon Beach rock. We took lots of photos and just took our time
wandering around. We had lunch at Bills Tavern and then drove back to meet
Stephs friend Jill. We went to - a brewery I can't remember the name of shoot - for dinner and it was super fun! A really
cool place, great atmosphere, and we got to sit on the patio which was really
fun.
Saturday
We went to the Starbucks downtown for breakfast and then drove to
Angels Rest for a hike. The hike was super fun! Lots of great photo ops, and we
perched on a rock with a beautiful view and had lunch. On the way home, we
stopped at Mulnomah falls which is a quinticental Portland view to see. It was
CRAZY busy. I’m surprised we even found anywhere to park. Cars were all along
the side of the road on both sides. It was pretty touristy with ice cream and a
gift shop, which I didn’t really expect. But still fun to see. We had dinner at
Troutini and then headed to Clackamas!
I wish we would have had more time to see some of the trendier parts of
Portland. Since we were stationed downtown and didn’t always have a car, it was
hard to get out there and see other parts of the city. Who knows, maybe I will
go back one day! We stopped in a town on the way home and had dinner and beer
at Troutini. Next up was Clackamas! Random ass town where we could get a hotel
room. We had a smoking room, which sucked for Katie because she has Asthma, but
we made it work! We went to a crappy local bar and had some beer and played
some cards – we probably should have gone back into Portland this night – but hey!
We wanted to take advantage of my roommates cheap hotel rates!
Sunday
The next day we went back into Portland and went to Voodoo donuts,
which had such a crazy long line. I ended up getting a capn crunch donut, which
for all intents and purposes was perfect for me, but something I realized is, I
like to keep what’s good, good on it’s own. So I like donuts on their own. And capn
crunch on its own. Too much together! Lessons learned .We saw the Portland is
weird sign and went to Strumptown coffee. We went to the Japanese gardens
because some friends said it was incredible…but they must have gone at peak
time because it was not that cool, ha! We also went to the rose gardens which
was fun. And then to Eastburn, a trendy lil place where they had swings for seats
on the patio! The food was yummy and we had awesome bloodies too!
Monday
Jill brought us to the airport, our flight was delayed 3 hours, we had
a few mimosas, we got stuck on the plane for an extra hour circling a storm
over MSP…oh and I threw up in the plane 6 times. The rest…is history…woof!
