We finally feel a sense of freedom with projects! Are biggest things are done, which is SO nice. We (I mostly :) which john is so sweet with giving me credit for) got so much done over holiday break, super productive. John is really being a trooper through all this too. It's tough on him that I'm doing all of the major projects, he feels like he's not contributing, which is so silly because he is SO good at so much of this. It's just in a different way. The stuff I'm doing might provide before and after photos, but him running errands and figuring out money stuff and crap is SO meaningful and I sure as shit don't want to do that crap. I'll just keep reminding him that he rocks;)
-We put our freshly painted cabinet doors on after Christmas and it was AMAZING
-After they were up, we were deciding what color to paint the kitchen walls - which was way more difficult than expected by the way. Anyway...I was sitting in the living room thinking about what color would go well with the yellow that was pretty but I HATED in the living room...that I had made up my mind in the beginning not to paint cause I was sick of painting....and then it hit me. NO I NEED TO PAINT IT ALL THE SAME - and once I decided this huge brick lifted and I was so excited and happy! So a lesson not to be lazy and paint if it's gonna bring joy. LOL first world probs yo. SO that night I took down all the window treatments, moved the furniture, taped the granite and parts of the kitchen (I never tape trim or ceiling I think it's a waste of time) and the next day I picked up paint at Home Depot (Behr Marquette - shoot I forget. I'll find out) and went for it! Doing the painting was SO worth it. But can I just say-the Marquette paint is NOT worth it. It so does not cover in one coat like it claims. So I did two, but all was well! I'm pretty good at cutting thankfully. The color is WAY more blue than I wanted but it still looks SUPER good!!! We thought it was way lighter than it is, but hey we can always repaint!
-We still have a little corner of our backsplash that is missing, and we're pretty bummed because apparently Daltile doesn't make the corner piece we need. But we don't feel a huge rush on that, so now that the holidays have calmed down, maybe I will take a stab and call them for myself (Home Depot was ordering for us before).
-Since we got some monies for Christmas, and have a party planned for next weekend, we splurged and bought a foldable full box spring to bring up to the attic! So worth it! About 180 which is a bummer, but so much better than me having to buy 2x4s and build it. And the bed would have been awkwardly close to the ground too.
-I have a bit of couch set remorse. OK a lot of couch set remorse. They aren't squishy and the chair is too big. I've been trying to ignore it and get over it...but I've been bumming a bit. BUT THEN when we decided we wanted another chair in the living room after the Christmas tree came down, we went to IKEA, and there was a huge sale. I had an idea of what we could get, but we decided to try a Chaise lounge - marked down 600 to 400...so exciting! I wish it was a different color (lots of gray in there now) but I REALLY like it! And it's so comfy - makes up for my couch remorse big time:)
Here's a before and after of the living room and after. SO COOL

The next step is that pesky little corner piece we have to figure out. The tile guy was just a "handy man" so he left it to us. Big LOL now when we look back. It was more trouble than the couple hundred we saved. But I also really want to paint the bottoms white. You can't reaaaally tell unless your looking, but i'm super excited. I think it will make a difference. John's skeptical so it will be interesting to see.
I also want to caulk some of the details like this crack below

Still to do!
-We still have a leaky pipe in the basement
-We need to replace all the outlets and outlet covers in the kitchen. Which we thought would be easy...but we need to make the ones by the sink with the reset button, so it's proving to be a little more complicated than we thought. People who understand electric work are AMAZING
-I need to sew a lot of curtains
-Pillows for living room - I pretty much want to copy my moms pillows to the tee, so my standards are pretty high
-Get the Donkey Kong JR game from my grandparents barn to put in our basement!
-There's an ugly covering on our water meter right now, that I really think I could but some DIY cabinet covers on
-I want to build a behind the couch bench and an entry way table thing for under my moms painting.
Long term
-One night we were discussing our backyard plans. We always talked about doing a deck...but one night we were talking about what we REALLY wanted. Since we now know we will have dogs and kids...what's more important, a fence or a deck? And we pretty unanimously decided on a fence! So our current plan is to build a killer patio and a fence. But that means we have to fix the rotting deck that is attached...so we will probably do that ASAP in the spring and then MAYBE someday put more of a staircase from our sliding door instead of a deck. I'm sure we will still change our minds many times.
