St. Patricks Cathedral
MOMA art

This was my favorite modern piece at the MET. The largets, more realistic acrylic painting I have ever seen. The detail was spectacular!

at MOMA

This was also at MOMA. A really neat little project by Rickard. "...A New American Picture, which focuses on places in the United States where unemployment, crime and drug use are ramant and educational opportunities are few. ON a virtual road trip, Rickard located these sites remotely using the Street View feature of the website Google Maps, which has mapped and photograped every street in the country. Scrutinizing the Google Maps pictures, he composed images on his computer screen, which he then photographed using a digital camera. The resulting pictures--digitally manipulated to remove the Google waterpark and cropped to a panoramic format--comment on poverty and racial equality in the United states, the bounty of images on the web, and issues of personal privacy". Very interesting I thought...!
Today I explored NYC all by myself! It was quite liberating, if I do say so myself. Mr. E had meetings and classes most of the day, so we hopped on the subway to NYU, and I buggered along the rest of the day from there. First I went to the MET, which was pretty great. Somehow, after I had walked into the first exhibit, I realized my Metro pass was already missing. So I had to have a little attitude change, after that upsetting realization. But I kept trucking all the same! I have to be honest, it was interesting, but my favorite part was the modern art room. But I always LOVE sculptures too, like in the one below. I think they are so fascinating! I thought it was really ironic too that the "American room" had the cafeteria along with it's art...;)
Next I went to upper Manhattan to try and see this cute "Pomander Walk". But really, I didn't research it enough. Rich people live there. It's gated. I couldn't get it. HA! But I got a pumpkin spice latte and passed rich houses and rich looking people. Whenever people hail taxis, I automatically assume "...rich..." and then I judge them or imagine where they are going.
The great news is, the only times I ever got lost, is walking the opposite direction one block, and then having to turn around. But E did that too, so I think it's just one of those things (the streets are numbered pretty well...) that happens unless you have a GPS in your heart.
Next, I wandered to the Times Square side of town. I got a little overwhelmed there since there was a protest, so decided to come back later. I found Saint Patrick's Cathedral, was was so neat since it's this beautiful gothic cathedral slammed in between skyscrapers. And so quiet inside. Next, a little zip through Rockefeller plaza. Cute little ice skaters and lots of people. Then I headed on over to MOMA-Museum of Modern Art. I waited in a long line that moved faster than I thought ever possible, so get my free tickets inside! It was fantastic! I read online that on Fridays from 4-8, Target sponsors a free night, so that was perfect. It was pretty crowded, but still definitely doable. I would TOTALLY go back there, and need to some day. I loved it! However, I only made it (pleasantly) through about the first half hour. My feet were screaming at me to sit. So, I told them to shut up, and at least grazed through everything, but not in the full detail I would have liked. It was really fun. It's assumed that some stuff would be weird there, which it was, but the set up of it and the art was so unique and interesting. Uh, so cool.
After that I waited for E to get done with class at Starbucks on campus. Then we got some dinner at a diner, picked up some wine, headed on home, and I was out cold after a very short time. My feet were saying thank you at this point.

The park next to NYU, SO PRETTY! I was so excited about the weather, I could barely stop smiling. But then, my DSLR said that my memory card was full when I only had 3 photos on it. I got upset and sad, but E fixed it for me! Apparently, the memory card just had to be reformatted, THANK GOODNESS FOR SMART BOY:) +++sorry about the photo being sideways, I don't really know why it does that...

Pretty sky and pretty buildings in Manhattan.

The MET! Yay! The only thing it reminds me of is a Friends episode...anyone, anyone?

Look at the cute little pin they give you so they know you paid! LOOOOOVE!

Central park, yep, i like.

Upper Manhattan was pretty ritzy, and really fun to walk around in.

Chillin on a bench outside central park. There were lots of dog walkers. I wanted to be them.

Wouldn't THAT be fun!
Overall, fun, fun day.
