Happy Halloween! - Monday in NYC

image
Today, E and I are dressed up as Waldo and Wenda. There were a few costumes throughout the day, but the marjority of them didn't come out until late at night. We are just wandering around throughout the day with no plans except to study with ours on. It's was great. We felt like little kids.

I'd say this is a pretty decent view to study amidst...!

This is the park right outside of NYU campus. {That's Empire State in the back!} It's been bumpin' a lot lately, especially because of the sunshine. Today it is 50ish degrees and LOVELY. As was yesterday. I don't think I could have been more blessed with weather. I got to see sunshine AND snow in NYC. Plus, I lucked out in the fact that my on sale riding boots from target, not only don't hurt with all this walking, but they are miraculously WATER PROOF! $%U%@)#(%)@#(% I don't even want to imagine how hard it would be to keep smiling if I had been moist through those times of rain and snow my first days here...It's a wonderful thing for surely!

Ps. there was a big pile of messy poop on the subway car we got into this morning. It was in the back corner, so everyone just avoided it. Inappropriate to share? Maybe, but it's something different from normal life back home, so I wanted to document it somewhere!

image People have really been loving our costumes, so that makes wandering around the city really fun. After E was done with classes today, we stopped at a bar for some 20 cent wings and half off drafts. YUM. It twas perfect:)

As the night gets later and later, the crazies are starting to come out in mass quantities. Provides for some awesome street entertainment by just watching people.

Wandering through the streets at night was absolutely insane. It was like Mardi gras, NY halloween style. We could barely move in the crowds, dance parties in the middle of the roads, the streets were cut off from cars, many smells everywhere, we saw another waldo, and got many comments from people passing (our favorites were after we passed when we could hear "oh that's so cute"). I wish I would have wiped by camera out to get some shots of the street, but it was overwhelming enough without that arm candy swinging from my shoulder. The subway was PACKED. We all had to get directed because of all the chaos. There were police officers EVERYWHERE, probably every 1o feet there was 2-5.

As we were passing a group of NYPD, Eric wanted to be funny:

"Oh i get it, you guys are cops!" (said in a Brooklyn accent mind you)

Response:

"Oh i get it, you guys are clowns!" (said in a genuine accent)

We giggle at first, but then analyzed his response and decided he was being sassy hahaha!

But later on that night we passed another group of cops, who said "look i found 'em!" So some were still in a good mood. I mean really, I think a couple of midwesterns dressed in the most innocent costumes on the street are the last of your worries, at least give us a smile!

PS. a thanks to all they NYers who stuck their fingers practially up our noses and shouted "FOUND YOU!". Mostly to E, since apparently no one cares about Wenda, Waldo's girlfriend...

I was resentful.

A safe and happy Halloween to all!

Wish I was a mouse on your shoulder during this adventure! I"m still laughing at the "cop clown" story.
