Day 1: Friday
Closing! This went SO smoothly. We got to the title agency at 9:30 and sat in a room with two reps, our relators and the couple. It was a lot of signatures, a lot of jokes and some small talk about the house that was now OURS! They gave us advice on what lawn mower to get, told us about neighbors, gave us the house code etc. We ran to Ikea to get an office chair, a dresser and a desk top for John. Once we were in we just wandered around smiling. John said "I have no regrets" at one point and it was magical. It's the perfect little house! We came home to a gift from the sellers too! They wrote us a card and left cute Minnesota coffee mugs. They even gave us a bread pan, and wrote down their favorite banana bread recipe! We're so lucky:)
Once my mom and sis got there, we wandered around excited again! And then went to Home Depot to pick out paint. Then we set to work. My mom is an amazing project manager and sis is such a good little helper. She was weak from preparing to donate stem cells, but she still trucked along the whole weekend - amazing! First we had to sand the lines off of the master room (they had a stripe of color around the room) and the flowers that were stamped onto the office room. We also spackled some holes and imperfections in the walls and sanded them. John and I put the first coat of paint on the master bedroom - a light blue. I did the trim/cutting, and he did the rolling. Mom and sis worked on the office, which is one dark gray wall and the rest a light gray. We ordered pizza and ate on the floor and worked until about 9. First coat of gray in hallway, leftover from office
Also, a great memory from this day was when my mom and sis and I went to go get paint. When we drove back and pulled up, I said, why are their kids in our kitchen? When we walked in John introduced us to four kids and we were like...uh...who are they? They were the sellers kids! They weren't picked up at the bus stop right away so they walked "home" and ran right in the house to John. He kept them company and then I made sure we called their mom haha! John said he offered them candy right away when they walked in LOL.
Day 2: Saturday
I woke up early and packed up my office. Then we went to the house about 10 to meet mom and sis. I picked up coffee and treats from Maeves. Man will I miss that place.
Convinced us to do trim in hallway and doors, started priming that
2nd coat in master and office
Started caulking trim around walls etc in rooms
Mom took off door knobs
Sue came over and brought sandwhiches!
Had to stop around 3 for wedding
Day 3: Sunday
I woke up early to finish the trim primer. I listened to podcasts and got one more coat on there. Mom and Neil and sis came about 10 again. We discussed our plan for the day, and then Neil and I took off for our first Home Depot run! I bought our first ladder and some tools so Neil could fix our chimney. Once we got back and he was actually on the roof, it was too steep for him to fix the mortar (and he had an injured shoulder) so he at least put a rain cap on for us, he's amazing! Eventually he started working on
Mom and sis touched up trim in rooms and cleaned floor of bedrooms
We contemplated painting the trim in the living room white, but then Neil had the genius idea of just polishing it, so we did that. It looks so good! And thank god cause now I know painting trim sucks.
Late lunch at Chimborozo
Cement by stairway
Done around 5
Day 4: Monday
Painted last coast of trim
Removed hardware from cabinets
Washed cabinets with TSP
Day 5: Tuesday
Painted gray in hallway and touched up doors and trim where needed in hallway
First coat of blue in bathroom - with leftover master paint
Sanded frame for all cabinets
Spackle some of cabinet frames
It will be so fun to have these saved somewhere on a timeline, so here our the photos from our listing!
